Hardware store employee accused of using anti-gay slur to refer to Boy Scout

Posted: Updated:

A historic hardware store is at the center of a controversy.

One of the employees at the store in Virginia is accused of using an anti-gay slur to refer to a Boy Scout.

A customer claims she witnessed the incident. She said a young man, wearing a Boy Scout uniform, came in to ask for donations for a service project.

The customer said after the boy was rudely turned away, the employee then allegedly used a homophobic slur.

"Turns to me and very aggressively says, you know they take (bleep) now right?"

The store clerk was allegedly referring to changes in the Boy Scouts, in which gay boys and leaders are allowed to join. The organization will also allow transgender girls who identify as boys.

The store manager hasn't commented on the matter yet.
