CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Waterloo man who fired a shot a police officer will spend 10 years in prison.

23-year-old Miquelle Miller received the sentence in federal court in Cedar Rapids today, after he was convicted of Possession of a Firearm as a Felon. Miller pleaded guilty to the charge last October.

The conviction is tied to an encounter in May 2017, in which Waterloo police say Miller shot at an officer while running away from a squad car along West Parker Street. No one was hurt in the shooting, and Miller was arrested later that night after police found him with the gun.

Miller will also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the 10 years in prison.
