SPECIAL REPORT: Tornado survivors describe their experience and recovery from 2008 tornado

May 25, 2008 is a day many eastern Iowans will not forget.  Six tornadoes were confirmed across eastern Iowa, including the powerful EF-5 tornado that moved through portions of Butler and Black Hawk counties.

Mayor Perry Bernard and his family survived the tornado, after their home in Parkersburg took a direct hit.  He and his family decided to rebuild.  Bernard describes his experience, and talks about how far Parkersburg has come.

Susan Meyer has lived in New Hartford for about 40 years and describes her experience, living through the devastating tornado.

Ali Feauchtwanger works at the Casey's gas station right off Highway 57.  She describes how her town came together after the tornado, and why it was important to have "The Curve" gas station built in 2010.  She also talks about a piece of art located at New Hartford's Library, with debris from the tornado.

Mel Neil is a former Dunkerton resident.  Him and his wife survived the storm, but decided to move to Fairbank after all the damage.  He describes his experience on May 25, 2008.
