Posted: Updated:

A new survey takes a look at the best cities for biking.

According to Bike Score Rankings by Redfin, Minneapolis tops the list of the most bikeable cities in America.

The cities were scored on several factors including access to bike lanes, hilliness and shared lanes.

Bike Score says the safety in numbers research indicates that most bikers on the road makes drivers more aware of bikers.

One reason Minneapolis took top honors: the city has prioritized bike safety and plans to add 30 miles of protected bike lanes by 2020.

In second place is Portland, Oregon.

The city is also making strides in creating bike lanes, bike crossings and neighborhood greenways.

Rounding out the top five are Chicago, Denver and San Francisco.

Coming in sixth to tenth place are Seattle, Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., Sacramento.
