Born and raised in eastern Iowa, I am happy to be staying here for my first job after college.

I grew up in Anamosa with my mom, brother and cat. A scheduling mishap my junior year of high school landed me into my first journalism class. An interview with a veteran on Veterans Day and I was hooked. Listening to him speak so passionately about his time in the service was eye-opening. I felt like I had been given the amazing opportunity to tell this man’s story and I wanted that feeling to continue.

I studied communication arts at Wartburg College in Waverly. It was there I found my love of broadcast journalism. Former mentors of mine suggested I try producing and I’m so glad they did. I was able to combine my love of writing with my love of broadcast journalism and telling stories. It was a perfect fit.

Having never worked in a newsroom outside of my college’s station, the idea of moving up to KWWL was a little daunting at first. But, I would like to think I am adjusting quite nicely. Being in news, I get to hear all sides of a story: the good, the bad, the heartwarming and the tragic. No day is ever the same day twice.

When I am not writing scripts or stacking a show, I love indulging my creative and artistic side. I love baking and cooking, watching Hallmark movies and pinning pictures, of all the places I would like to go, on my Pinterest board. I also have a huge soft spot for my family, friends and animals. I hope to add to my family soon by adopting my own furry companion.

Growing up, I didn’t think I would stay in Iowa after high school; I was looking to go somewhere warm and sunny. While I will forever dread Iowa winters, what made me stay are the people and the memories. Nobody can do “nice” quite like Iowans and there will always be something about Iowa that feels like home.
