Update: Funeral arrangements made for Benton County Chief Deputy

Update: Funeral arrangements have been announced for Benton County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Ferguson.

Ferguson, 62, died from a heart attack earlier this week.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 18th, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Vinton Shellsburg High School in Vinton, Iowa.

Services will be held will also be held at the high school on Saturday at 1 pm.


The Benton County Sheriff's Office says Chief Deputy Mike Ferguson died on Monday.

Ferguson was 62 years old, and had worked for the Sheriff's Office since 1980. An online obituary for Ferguson through Van Steenhuyse-Russel Funeral Home in Vinton indicates funeral arrangements are pending, while noting Ferguson died at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.

We're working to confirm more information on the cause of Chief Deputy Ferguson's death.

Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson wrote a Facebook post in honor of Chief Deputy Ferguson on Monday, saying they had worked alongside each other recently in the search for Jake Wilson throughout the La Porte City area.
