UPDATE: Cyclist dies after collision with car

UPDATE: A man has died after being hit by a car while on his bicycle Friday evening. 

28-year-old Christopher Lewis of Marion died Saturday morning. 

According to police the driver involved had a green light near Lindale Mall when he struck Lewis who was crossing at a crosswalk while the no crossing light was on. 

The Driver was charged with Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability because he had no insurance.


A man riding a bicycle was taken to the hospital after a collision with car in Cedar Rapids.

Police say the collision happened at the intersection of Collins Road and Twixt Town Road Northeast, just after 6 p.m. on Friday. Once at the scene, officers closed the westbound lane of Collins Road/Highway 100 between Twixt Town Road through 1st Avenue Northeast in Cedar Rapids.

The condition of the cyclist is not known at this time, and officers say they're still investigating the circumstances of the crash. The names of the people involved have not been made public at this time.
