Update: Boy dies from accidental shooting in rural Clarksville

BUTLER COUNTY (KWWL) -

UPDATE: The Butler County Sheriff's Office confirms a minor was killed in an accidental shooting in rural Clarksville. 

Kain Schild, 15, was the victim in the shooting.

Authorities say it happened around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 10. 

Clarksville EMS, Waverly Paramedics, Clarksville Police, Iowa State Patrol, and the Butler County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident. 

Authorities say when they arrived, there were three people at the scene, and all of them were under the age of 18. 

According to Schild's obituary, the incident happened at Norton's Pond.

Schild was a freshman at Clarksville High School. 

According to his obituary and Facebook, Schild loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working at New Day Dairy.

The family is encouraging those interested in firearms to take gun safety classes.

Joel Foster, the superintendent for the Clarksville Community School District, sent KWWL this statement.

He says, "The Clarksville Schools Family is greatly saddened by the loss of one of our students. The Central Rivers AEA Crisis Response Team, Counselors from several neighboring school districts, and members of the local ministerial alliance will be on hand today to support students and staff members as needed. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to the family and friends of this student."

This case remains under investigation.
