Ford halts F-150 production

Posted: Updated:

Ford has temporarily shut down half the production of the company’s best-selling vehicle, the F-150 pickup truck, following a fire at a facility in Michigan.

The fire was at one their suppliers, Meridian Magnesium Products, in Eaton Rapids.  It happened Wednesday, May 2 and created a shortage of die-cast parts.  Therefore, the two plants that make the F-150, located in Dearborn, Michigan and Kansas City, Missouri, have both halted production.  This affects 7,600 workers total who are now temporarily laid off.

The F-150 is the top-selling vehicle in the U.S. and has been for over 40 years.  The shutdowns may last for several weeks.
