INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -

A 35-year-old man from Hazleton will spend 10 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually touching a child under the age of 14.

The Buchanan County Attorney's Office says Joseph Banks was sentenced to the prison time in Iowa District Court in Independence on Monday, after he was convicted on a charge of Lascivious Acts With a Child last summer.

The charge stemmed from an incident in November 2016, during which investigators determined Banks "fondled or touched the genitals of a child under the age of 14 for the purpose of sexual gratification," according to the attorney's office.

Banks will also be required to register as a sex offender for life after serving the prison time.
