Waterloo's SingleSpeed Brewing Co. wins at World Beer Cup

SingleSpeed Brewing Co. competed in the 2018 World Beer Cup in Nashville, Tennessee on May 3, and came back to Waterloo a winner among the 101-beer style categories that were judged at what is regarded as the "Olympics of Beer."

SingleSpeed claimed the bronze award in the Gose beer style category for its Ring Around the Gose, which features passion fruit and pink guava in addition to the required sea salt and coriander additions.

"It's great to see our guys recognized on a level like this.  Third best Gose in the world, something like that doesn't happen by chance, or overnight," said SingleSpeed founder, Dave Morgan.

Another brewery in eastern Iowa won at the competition.  Iowa Brewing Co. in Cedar Rapids won silver for their Tragedy of the Commons in the American-Style Amber Lager category.

Beers at the World Beer Cup are selected by an international panel of 295 judges from 33 countries.  The 2018 event had 8,234 entries from 2,515 breweries in 66 countries, making it the largest competition to date.

"The award reflects the effort they put into the creation and evolution of every beer that they brew, not just this particular Gose," said Morgan.  "To have one acknowledged in this manner is a truly beautiful thing and I could not be more proud of our team."

SingleSpeed Brewing Co. is located at 325 Commercial St., downtown Waterloo.  Visit their website for more information.
