Fargo ends Waterloo Black Hawks season with 3-2 win

Posted: Updated:
FARGO (KWWL) -

Two third period goals made the difference. The Fargo Force got a pair past Waterloo's Matej Tomek to rally for a 3-2 win over the Black Hawks and end Waterloo's season in game four of the Western Division Finals.

The Black Hawks struck first on Saturday night when Solag Bakich redirected a hard shot off the stick of Michael Ferrandino in to the back of the net early in the first period. Fargo's Griffin Loughran scored the equalizer on a breakaway late in the third.

Black Hawks' defenseman Ben Finkelstein hammered a one-timer past Strauss Mann for the only second period goal as Waterloo took a 2-1 lead in to the third. An unfortunate bounce off a face-off sent the puck right to Fargo's Garrett Van Wyhe who tied up the game at two with 15 minutes remaining. John Schuldt scored the eventual game winner five minutes later.

Fargo advanced to face Youngstown in the final. Neither team has won a Clark Cup title in their history. Waterloo now turns their attention to phase I of the USHL draft on Monday night.
