LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (KWWL) -

Justify rumbled through the mud at Churchill Downs on Saturday, winning by 2 1/2 lengths to capture the title at the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby. The horse became the first colt in 136 years to win the derby despite not racing as a 2-year-old. Justify carried 3-to-1 odds to win the race prior to coming out of the gate.

Iowa owned Free Drop Billy finished 16th in the race. The run was the third attempt at the derby by Albaugh Stables of Des Moines. Brody's Cause finished 7th in 2016 and J Boy's Echo took 15th in the 2017 race.
