Motorcyclist hit in Cedar Rapids accident dies

UPDATE: The motorcyclist who was involved in the crash on Thursday, May 3rd at the intersection of Edgewood Road and O Avenue NW, has died. 

The Cedar Rapids Police Department was notified by the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office that Dawson Reed Brown, 20,  of Cedar Rapids, died on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the crash involved a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban and a 1998 Harley-Davidson Super Glide. The driver of the Suburban was identified as Rhiannon Lynn Keast, 19, or Cedar Rapids. 

The crash investigation determined that the motorcyclist was northbound on Edgewood Road and collided with the Suburban. The Suburban was southbound on Edgewood Road and attempting to turn left onto O Avenue NW.

Cedar Rapids police were called to a accident involving a motorcycle and SUV Thursday evening, where one person was seriously injured.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Edgewood Rd and O Ave NW in Cedar Rapids. When officers arrived on scene, they found a collision had occurred between a motorcycle and SUV, and the driver of the motorcycle was laying in the roadway, suffering from a serious injury. Officers were relieved by medical staff, who took the driver of the motorcycle to a hospital. 

Officers are currently conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident. The names of the people involved are not being released at this time. Until the investigation into the crash is conmpleted, officers have closed O Ave NW from Edgewood Rd east bound.
