Highway 20 detours to begin in Dubuque

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

As construction continues for the Southwest Arterial project in Dubuque, detours are set to begin Monday night on Highway 20.

Reconstruction of the intersection of Highway 20/Dodge Street and Old Highway Road, will include a temporary median barrier on Highway 20, which will require Old Highway Road become right-turn in and right-turn out only.

Traffic on Old Highway Road will not be permitted to turn left from Old Highway to travel eastbound on Highway 20/Dodge Street at the intersection.

Eastbound traffic will not be allowed to turn left from Highway 20 onto Old Highway Road at the intersection. The detour will be marked and will direct traffic to Seippel Road, then Chavenelle Road, then U.S. 32/Northwest Arterial to U.S. 20/Dodge Street.

As for westbound traffic, drivers will not be able to turn left to access businesses on the south side of Highway 20/Dodge Street near the intersection with Old Highway Road. Those wanting access to the businesses, will be directed to the existing Menards/U.S. 20 intersection, where they can turn left and onto the new Menards frontage road.

Drivers are reminded to be cautious in the construction zone.

The work on the intersection is expected to be completed by late summer.
