Boy Scouts name change to "Scouts BSA" effective next year

Posted: Updated:

The Boy Scouts are getting rid of the word "boy" in their name.

The program for 11 to 17-year-olds will be called Scouts BSA starting next February.

Leaders say the change is meant to be welcoming to girls.

Girls are already allowed to be in the Cub Scouts, which is the 7 to 10-year-old program.

The umbrella organization will keep its name of Boy Scouts of America, or BSA.
