Facebook plans to launch a new dating feature for 'meaningful, long-term relationships'

Facebook is getting a little more social. They're adding a dating feature.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the news during a developer conference in San Jose.

He says it won't feature friends as potential mates, but it will have security and privacy features.

"This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships. All right, not just hook-ups. It's going to be in the Facebook app, but it's totally optional; it's opt-in. If you want, you can make a dating profile. And, I know a lot of you are going to have questions about this. So I want to be clear that we have designed this with privacy and safety in mind, from the beginning," Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says.

The dating feature is set to roll out later this year.

Chris Cox, Facebook's chief product officer, took the stage to lay out how the unnamed feature would work, using a presumably fictional woman named "Jennifer" as his case study.
