Bel Canto Cedar Valley to hold concert with Waverly-Shell Rock choir May 6

Posted: Updated:

Music is always powerful.  But when two choirs join together to share their love of music, it takes it to an entirely new level.  Bel Canto Cedar Valley is proud to do just that with the Waverly-Shell Rock High School Chamber Choir, presenting “Bind Us Together in One,” on Sunday, May 6 in Waverly.

Artistic director Nick Klemetson has put the program together, with compositions by Palestrina, David Matthews/Takach, André Thomas, Pete Seeger/Palmer, Barnwell, Rheinberger, and many more.

“This program is an individual journey that reflects our society as a whole; our wanderer begins lost and alone, but by the end they they turn the corner and begin the climb back to unity with themselves and the world, effectively binding their heart together with their brothers and sisters far and wide,” Klemetson said.

BCCV, founded in 2012, has members from communities all around the Cedar Valley including Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Waverly, Hudson, Denver, New Hartford, Reinbeck, and many others.  The group "promotes quality choral music in Northeast Iowa, explores the breadth of choral repertoire, advances new choral music from regional composers, and encourages music as a life-long passion."  KWWL had written a story about the choir's auditions for this season last August. You can learn more about the choir on their website.

Admission is $10 for the hour-long concert, which begins at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Tickets can be purchased ahead from chorale members, online at here, or at the door. A dessert reception will follow the concert.
