LINN COUNTY (KWWL) -

Authorities in Linn County say a firefighter was taken to the hospital on Friday after battling a brush fire.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office says the fire sparked from a controlled burn in the 400 block of Upper Boulder Road on Tuesday, but the fire had apparently rekindled and began to spread today. The flames grew larger in the area of Prairieburg Road and Smith Road in Linn County -- and damaged a large outbuilding, according to deputies, and a shed was a total loss in the 500 block of Smith Road.

Sheriff's Deputies say the firefighter injured battling the flames is from the Prairieburg Fire Department. The unidentified firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, according to officers.

Linn County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene of the fire around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, alongside responders from Linn County Rescue 57, the Central City Fire Department, the Prairieburg Fire Department, the Troy Mills Fire Department, the Coggon Fire Department, the Monticello Fire Department, the Anamosa Fire Department, and the Monticello Ambulance Service.
