DNR catches 'monster' fish in Iowa lake

Posted: Updated:

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources shared a photo on its Facebook page . It's of a walleye the agency says it found while collecting broodstock on Rathbun Lake.

According to Facebook, "It weighed in at 12.74 pounds and measured 28.8 inches."

That's close to the state record. Back in 1986, a walleye that was caught in the Des Moines River, weighed in at nearly 15 pounds.

The Iowa DNR says they put the fish back in the water! That means you still have a shot at catching this big fish.
