The Flaming Wheel Motorsports (FWMS) placed first in a regional STEM team competition, which has allowed them to proceed to the National STEM League Finals in New York later this month.

The finals will be held at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York on April 28 and 29. They are holding their final practice at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Kimball Ave. in Waterloo on Monday, April 23, from 12:15 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Flaming Wheel Motorsports (FWMS) is a group of homeschool students from the Cedar Valley. They are a Ten80 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Team. Ten80 is comprised of engineers, scientists, educators, and marketing professionals who have developed unique and innovative STEM Program curriculum utilizing the racing platform to illustrate various STEM principles.

FWMS has been in existence for several years and each year they compete nationally against other Ten80 STEM Teams. Every year their team chooses a community outreach project. This year they have chosen to spread kindness through their community using their #dokindnessFWMS campaign. They are encouraging people to do random acts of kindness for their family, friends, and even strangers. They believe no act is too small and together we can have a big impact in our world.

The Waterloo Police Department is in support of the initiative as it is seen as an effort by the young members of our community to prevent crime and enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
