TODAY: La Porte City going blue to support Jake Wilson's family

Posted: Updated:
LA PORTE CITY (KWWL) -

The La Porte City Chamber of Commerce will be putting blue ribbons on light poles throughout Main Street and Commercial Street. They are doing this starting at 9:30 this morning.

They say the ribbons are blue because that is the color of autism, and blue also happens to be Jake Wilson's favorite color.

The Chamber is made up of area businesses. They say their mission is to, "support the community by supporting businesses."

There are also a lot of blue ribbons available for the public. You can come to Hawkins Memorial Library today, make a donation, and get your own blue ribbon.

The chamber says they want Jake's family to know the community has not forgotten about him. It's important that we continue to share Facebook posts and upload pictures or tips on the FBI website.

The address for Hawkins Memorial Library in La Porte City is: 308 Main St, La Porte City, IA 50651.

There are also window stickers that say #bringJakehome, which are available at Just 4 U (located next to Rocket’s Bakery on Main Street). You can also get them through their Facebook page for $3 (all proceeds go to the family).

There are also blue bracelets available at LPC Connect or A Cut On Main. Those are $5 each, while supplies last.

According to the Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page, it says, "The La Porte City Utilities and the La Porte City Chamber of Commerce will be putting up blue ribbons and bows around the community in honor of Jake Wilson and his family on Friday morning. The event will begin with a short prayer in front of City Hall at 9:30 a.m. Extra blue bows will be available for free will donation to the family of Jake Wilson. Please contact Barb at LPC Connect 342-3369."
