Communities working to improve traffic flow

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Eastern Iowa community leaders are working to improve traffic in a growing part of Black Hawk County.

People who live near East Donald Street and North Elk Run Road in the Waterloo, Evansdale, and Raymond areas say traffic is bad, especially from the afternoon to night time, when work is letting out at Tyson and John Deere.

That intersection is really just part of a bigger plan to improve traffic throughout the area.

Right now, the consulting firm working on this project is recording as much traffic information as they can, while projecting growth in the area.

Project organizers hoped to discuss some of their information in April, but that meeting has been set for later next month.

According to a person who lives in the area, she's ready to move.

"It's very noisy at times. There is a 'No Jake-Braking' sign, but they (semi drivers) don't follow it, and nap time here is not fun, " Jenna Platte said.

Platte said she runs a day-care business out of her home, and the heavy semi traffic is a concern.

She also says she's looking forward to what community leaders have to say about improving traffic in the area.
