MidAmerica drops Evangel in softball

OLATHE, Kan. – The Evangel softball team dropped a Heart South Division double-header Wednesday night at MidAmerica Nazarene, 11-6, and 4-3 to end an eight-game road swing.

Game One
Evangel fell behind after a three-run first inning and five-run second inning by MidAmerica Nazarene. After being held scoreless in the first inning Evangel would score a run in each of the final six innings however it wouldn't be enough.

Michelle Sheppard finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Crusaders as Taylor Good went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a home run. Holt also tallied multiple hits as Evangel finished with 11 hits as a team.

MidAmerica Nazarene tallied 14 hits as a team as Bridget Rippe earned the loss going just 1.1 innings. Taylor Kister pitched the final 4.2 innings and scattered six hits with three strikeouts.

Game Two
Evangel saw an early lead slip away in the middle innings of game two as MidAmerica Nazarene won, 4-3.

The Crusaders scored three runs in the first inning as Alex Jackson tripled to score Michelle Sheppard who led off the game with a walk. The scoring continued two batters later when Kami Holt belted a two-run homer to center giving Evangel a 3-0 lead.

However, the Crusaders would be shutout and held to just two hits over the final six innings as the Pioneers rallied to score two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Abby Emmitt was handed the loss after going six innings and scattering seven hits. She struck out seven and walked none in the loss.

Evangel returns home Friday to host Missouri Valley in Heart South Division action. First pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 2 p.m.
