WASHINGTON (KWWL) -

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley paid tribute to veterans visiting the nation's capitol today, as the first Eastern Iowa Honor Flight of the year brought dozens of local veterans to Washington, D.C.

Sen. Grassley joined the veterans from eastern Iowa as they toured several memorials on Tuesday, including the World War II, Vietnam and Korean War Memorials, as well as the Arlington National Cemetery.

“The Honor Flight program gives veterans and their families the opportunity to come together in fellowship, see their memorial and pay respect to their fellow brothers and sisters in Arms,” Sen. Grassley said through a statement. “It was an honor to spend time with these courageous Americans.”
