Waukon Police say a man is in custody facing 2nd degree murder charges, after another man is shot and killed. Police say John Quanrude, 32, is being held in the Allamakee County Jail.According to investigators, Quanrude called 911 Monday afternoon to report an accidental shooting.

Quanrude allegedly told police he fired a quote "warning shot," and then fired a second shot which hit the victim.

Police say Dean Russell, 60, was shot and killed. Russell is Quanrude's roommate and step-father. Russell was taken to the hospital, but died shortly after getting there.

An autopsy is scheduled for later this week. Quanrude is being held on a $100,000 bond.

In a Waukon mobile home park, caution tape surrounds the place where police say a man died after getting shot.

Just a few doors down, neighbors were reacting. "Being that it's so close to where we live, it's kind of scary," said Ashley Pearson,

It happened Monday afternoon on Jean Road.

"We got calls from a friend saying watch out, there's an active shooting going on, we didn't really have any details of anything that was going on," Pearson added.

"All we seen was cops when we got back that shut off the block," another neighbor, Brenden Poole mentioned.

Police have not released many details about the incident. We do know after they were called to the home, the man, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital where he died.

"He was an older man, he was pretty nice," Pearson said.

"He went out of his way to help anybody he could," added Poole.

The death remains under investigation. The Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office is performing an autopsy.

According to DCI, the public is not at risk.

Waukon Police are investigating after responding to, what turned out to be, a deadly shooting.

Police say officers responded to a shooting at a home on Jean Rd. shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday. A man was transported to Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he died.

According to a release from the police department, the man's name is not being released yet, while relatives are being notified.
