CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A man is in critical condition tonight after he was apparently shot over a $20 debt.

It happened late last night in Cedar Rapids at the Westdale Court Apartments.

Police arrested 28-year-old Kent Stevens who admitted to them he shot someone over 20 bucks, that's according to the Criminal Complaint.

32-year-old Isaac Chatman is the victim, he is at the University of Iowa Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

We were on scene today where several neighbors told us they weren't surprised to hear gunshots in the area.

Westdale Court staff made it clear they didn't want us talking with tenants but we caught up with several of them while on public property.

Neighbors tell us the violence is alarming and it's concerning with so many children living nearby.

Several neighbors heard the gunshots.

"I want to say there were five or six in a row, give or take," one woman told us, who wished to remain anonymous.

We saw multiple officers patrolling the neighborhood today, police say the shooting happened in a parking lot.

Stevens, the alleged shooter lives in the apartment complex.

One neighbor told us she was shocked to hear he was charged with the crime, she said he is a quiet guy who will often help the elderly take out their trash.

On top of an Attempted Murder charge Sevens is facing several other charges including Possession of a Firearm as a Felon.
