Spotting spring-like weather

Posted: Updated:

Whether you're saying good-bye to winter weather or welcoming spring, no matter how you say it, many Iowans are excited about the seasonal change.

Golfers are excited to be out on the Jones Golf Course in Cedar Rapids this week, and they're eager to put those winter blues behind them.

"I"m kind of surprised when I drove down here, and I saw the parking lot of how many cars were in it already. It's kind of unusual to see this early," Cedar Rapids interim-golf operations manager, David Roe, said.

While many people are enjoying opening day, the snow and ice are melting across the area.

That means better business for Dairy Queen owners like Don Share.

"Eighty degrees is my time of year. That's good ice cream weather," Share said.

Also a welcome sign of spring, people are coming to wash that winter salt off their vehicles in Waterloo, and right next door you can see this Dairy Queen drive-thru isn't busy just yet, and the owner says he's looking to kick off spring a little differently this year.

"Instead of giving away a free cone, every cone I sell, the Children's Miracle Network gets all the money, and every blizzard I sell is going to be like Miracle Treat Day. I'm going to donate a dollar from the sale of every blizzard to the Children's Miracle Network also," Share said.

So this year, he urges everyone to come out March 20 to support the Children's Miracle Network by grabbing some ice cream.

"When you hand someone an ice cream cone, it's like they're four years old all over again. It doesn't matter how old they are, when they see that cone, and their face lights up," Share said.
