Dog dies in overhead bin on United Airlines flight

A dog dies on an United Airlines plane.

A flight attendant ordered the owner to put her pet in the plane's overhead bin.

The dog died sometime during the four-hour flight from Houston to New York city.

The owner says the dog was in a small, TSA - approved pet carrier, designed to fit under the seat.

"We sat down, we were trying to put him under because he fits and flight attendants came and was like 'you can't put him there because he'll block the path.' she said 'you'll have to put him where the baggage goes.' and she just,  she was like 'oh I'll help you.' then she helped my mom put him up there and she just closed it like he was a bag," Sophia Ceballos says.

A United spokesman says the airline refunded the cost of the family's airline tickets and the pet fee.
