Washington D.C.'s cherry blossoms are going to bloom later than expected this year.

The peak bloom date is being pushed back by two weeks; the new dates are March 27 to 31.

Peak bloom occurs when 70 percent of the Yoshino cherry trees surrounding the tidal basin are in bloom.

The National Park Service blames colder-than-expected temperatures for the push back.

The cherry blossoms' flowers can last up to 10 days once they bloom.
