TONIGHT: Waterloo area couple looks for home on "House Hunters"

Posted: Updated:

From small town to the national spotlight...

Tonight, a Waterloo area couple is sharing their story on a hit TV show.

Emma Peterson and Shannon Rubino have gone through a challenge many of us can relate to. They were looking for a new home, one they could make their own.

For fun, Peterson applied to HGTV show, "House Hunters."

To Peterson and Rubino's surprise, the show replied and asked the couple to share their story. For about two weeks in October, "House Hunters" followed the potential home buyers around as they looked at three different homes they might be interested in buying.

On the  "House Hunters" website, the show is described as a show that, " takes viewers behind the scenes as individuals, couples and families learn what to look for and decide whether or not a home is meant for them. Focusing on the emotional experience of finding and purchasing a new home, each episode shows the process as buyers search for a home."

Peterson and Rubino say they hope some Iowans will be able to relate to their search.

"We found that people in Iowa value community, and I hope that when people watch the show, they'll recognize that in us, and relate to that even if they think we're different then them," Peterson says.

The couple says their story might also be more relatable because they had a more conservative budget. They were also looking in smaller towns, rather than in a large city.

The couple looked for homes around Cedar Falls, Waterloo and surrounding towns.

The "House Hunters" episode featuring the couple will air later tonight at 9 p.m.
