Tracy Freese announces run for Iowa’s 25th Senate District after Dix resigns

Posted: Updated:

Hours after Iowa Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix resigned, Tracy Freese (D) announced she will be running for Iowa's 25th Senate District.

Before his resignation announcement, video was released showing Dix kissing a lobbyist in a Des Moines bar.

Tracy Freese released a statement saying she is ready represent her district and bring fresh, progressive ideas to the Iowa Senate.

“My platform has always been about putting people first instead of profits. I look forward to using my leadership to help my community,” says Freese.

Even though the announcement came out this week, Freese has been campaigning since July and will be on the November ballot.

Within the next 5 days, Gov. Kim Reynolds is expected to call for a special election to fill the position. No Republican candidate has officially stepped up.
