WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Recently, Waterloo Firefighters traveled to Washington D.C. to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the International Association of Fire Fighters.

The association was established to represent the rights of firefighters in the United States.

Waterloo Local 66 was represented at the first meeting in Washington D.C. in 1918, when the IAFF was formed and is considered an original charter.

Local 66 President Mike Spence and Secretary Jeff Palmer joined firefighters from across the country and Canada in D.C. on February 28, 2018, to mark the 100 year anniversary.

Spence and Palmer traveled with members of nine other Iowa locals.

The group of firefighters gathered on the exact spot where the organization was founded to recreate the historical photo of the founding members.
