For the third time in six years, no Hawkeye wrestlers stood on top of the podium at the Big Ten Championships. The Hawkeyes finished their weekend with nine automatic NCAA qualifiers, but no champions.

Iowa senior 149-pounder Brandon Sorensen came the closest. The only Hawkeye wrestling on finals night, Sorensen fell just short, falling to top ranked Zain Retherford of Penn State 2-0.

The Hawkeyes took fourth in the team race, their lowest finish ever under under head coach Tom Brands, and their lowest since finishing sixth in 2006 under Jim Zalesky.

Iowa 125-pounder Spencer Lee was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year following the meet. After falling to top ranked Nathan Tomasello in the semifinal on Saturday, Lee ultimately won out on the consolation side to finish third.
