Police: William Penn basketball player dies after stabbing

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a 22-year-old William Penn University student-athlete was stabbed after a car accident Thursday night, and later died from his injuries.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Oskaloosa Police are investigating the death of Marquis Todd. Todd was found at an Oskaloosa gas station last night, suffering from stab wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but died there. Todd attended William Penn University and played for the Statesmen basketball team.

Officers say they believe a minor car accident about 30 minutes prior to the stabbing led to the attack.

No arrests have been made in the case.

William Penn University posted a message on its Facebook page regarding Todd's death, reading in part: "We have heavy hearts... We've lost a friend, teammate, classmate and member of our campus community."

The University says a Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinal basketball game tonight against Peru State will go on as scheduled tonight in Oskaloosa, but a candlelight vigil will follow the 7 p.m. game.

This is a developing story, stay with KWWL on air and online as more information from the investigation emerges.
