UPDATE: Iowa City firefighters extinguish apartment fire

UPDATE: Iowa City Fire Department was called to an attic fire at 433 South Johnson Street.

It took the first unit three minutes to arrive on scene. This is when the crew noticed smoke and fire pouring from the three-story apartment building.

Most occupants left the building before fire crews arrived. The fire was contained to the attic and doused within 50 minutes after the arrival of crews.  


UPDATE: The fire inside an apartment building in Iowa City has been put out. No one was injured in the fire, and the flames first started around 7:15 p.m. Thursday night.

Crews also say they believe two apartments took on damage in the fire, and a cause will be determined over the next several days following a full investigation.

Fire crews are at the scene of an apparent apartment fire in Iowa City.

The firefighters are in the 400 block of South Johnson Street. KWWL crews are also at the scene working to learn more about the situation.
