Cedar Rapids man accused of stealing copper from MidAmerican Energy

A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested and charged after police said he trespassed onto MidAmerican Energy property in order to nab copper.

On February 27, Iowa City police responded to MidAmerican Energy where they said 33-year-old, Quentin Hamilton, had trespassed onto secured property. According to a criminal complaint, Hamilton had scaled a ten-foot barbed wire fence.

Police said Hamilton had been tossing copper back over the fence and that he admitted that he was going to exchange the copper for money. The amount of copper that Hamilton is accused of taking was valued at $400 by police in the complaint.

Hamilton was taken into custody and charged with third degree burglary.
