CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids Mayor Brad Hart gave his first State of the City Address today.

He spoke in front of a large crowd at the DoubleTree Hotel downtown.

It was a very positive speech focusing on growth, particularly since the 2008 flood.

He also talked about some exciting things to come such as the possibility of more downtown hotels and a bike share program.

Mayor Hart addressed crime as well telling the crowd the violent crime rate is lower than it's been in the last decade.

In regards to flooding he hopes to secure federal funding for protection, something he recently talked with President Trump about at the White House.

"The White House clearly knows about Cedar Rapids and our project and I'm very hopeful the President's infrastructure bill will give us an opportunity to have some additional needed funding to complete or to move our project forward much faster," Hart says.

He also brought up the Newbo Evolve festival coming up in August and the excitement surrounding it.

The event will headline Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine.

Clarkson appeared on a video screen today to get people excited about the festival.

Mayor Hart brought up recreational activities in the city saying 85% of Cedar Rapids homes are within a half mile of a park or trail.
