Tyson Foods reports ammonia leak to DNR

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Tyson Foods confirms they experienced an ammonia leak at their Waterloo plant.

Caroline Ahn, External Communications Manager for Tyson Foods tells KWWL, "There was a minor ammonia leak in the refrigeration area of our Waterloo, IA pork facility over the weekend. The plant was not in operation at the time and everyone is safe. This resulted in a brief delay in operations this morning."

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources confirms Tyson Foods in Waterloo reported an ammonia leak this morning.

The DNR said a Tyson employee called into their spill tip line around 5:00 a.m., claiming there was a leak inside the building. The DNR said Tyson stated the ammonia leak was contained within the building and was not released outside.

This is a developing story.
