NEW ORLEANS (KWWL) -

Cole McDonald threw seven innings without allowing an earned run as the Hawkeyes finished their weekend down south with an 8-2 win over tournament host New Orleans.

The New Hampton native struck out four and scattered three hits over the outing.

Iowa opened the scoring in the first inning on a deep 2-run scoring double in the left centerfield gap off the bat of Tyler Cropley. Cropley added another RBI base hit in the second as the Hawks opened the game with four unanswered runs. Iowa never trailed in the game.

The Hawkeyes return to Iowa City for their home opener on Tuesday against Cornell College.
