Group rallies for gun violence prevention in downtown Cedar Falls

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Around 50 people gathered outside of Congressman Rod Blum's office in Cedar Falls this morning.

They protested gun violence following last week's mass shooting in Florida.

The group chanted, saying phrases like, "Not one more." Several people were holding signs.

People of all ages were there, including children, UNI students, and parents.

The group received mixed reactions from others in the area.

Several people honked when they drove by. One man drove by and shouted, "get a life."

Angela Speltz was a part of the rally. She says. "You know we said enough with Columbine. We said enough with Sandy Hook. We said enough with Las Vegas. Now there's enough with Florida, and it just has to stop."

Ben Kimball saw the group from across the street. He says, "I hear a lot of chanting about protect our kids and not one more, and I'm curious as to what they think is going to protect our kids. A lot of the people that are doing these acts of gun violence are not following laws."

The group started gathering together shortly before 10.
