Waterloo police ask for public's help in identifying suspects in armed robbery

Posted: Updated:

Waterloo Police and Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects in an armed robbery on 2100 Lafayette St. in Waterloo.

Authorities say it happened Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m.

Police say two people, dressed in all black, entered the store and robbed the cashier at gunpoint. Authorities released photos of the suspects Thursday, saying one of the suspects has very distinctive tattoos near the top and bottom of their right wrist.

Mike Preece, who was on shift, working the register at the time-had one thing on his mind.

"Please don't shoot me," said Preece. "I've got a wife. I've got a daughter I just want to go home to my family. Pretty much the only thing I can remember thinking is just don't shoot me. Just let me go home."

Preece says he gave them the money and they left. There were three customers in the store at the time.

A store manager at the Neighborhood Mart confirmed this is the second time the store has been robbed in less than a month. According to police, the store was robbed on January 31st. During this incident, police say the clerk was also assaulted.

Police are still looking into whether or not the two robberies are related.

"It's getting to be ridiculous," said Preece. "There's been a lot of burglaries. A lot of robberies and it's very scary."

Police ask anyone with information to call the Waterloo Police Department at 319-291-4340 ext. 7 or Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers at 855-300-TIPS (8477).
