HAPPENING TODAY: New Hartman Reserve Nature Center opens

Posted: Updated:
BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) -

The new Hartman Reserve Nature Center opens to the public today.

For about a year and a half, the almost 80-year-old building was being renovated and rebuilt.

The original Hartman Reserve Nature Center was originally built back in 1941.

The new building has three main areas. There's an exhibit room that teaches people all about different habitats that can be found in Hartman Reserve. The exhibit room is filled with different animals, from aquatic turtles and salamanders to snakes and a snapping turtle.

There's also a "climbing tree," kids and adults can crawl through.

There's also a learning lab that is designed for a more hands-on education.

And finally, there is an area designated for community gatherings inside the new nature center.

This was a project that cost more than two million dollars. Many people in the community made donations to the project, both large and small.

The hours are Mon-Fri 8a-4:30p and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays.
