Cedar Falls dentist brings in rescue puppy to calm patients

Posted: Updated:

Cedar Valley Dental Associates just got a new "assistant."

Maya is a 4-month-old chocolate lab mix. She's a rescue puppy from Missouri.

"She was in a litter of 6, and they were found in Missouri malnourished and out in the cold," says Aaron Brummer, a chief executive officer of Cedar Valley Dental Associates.

Brummer and his wife got Maya from Cedar Valley Pit bull Rescue. Right now she is training to become a therapy dog, and she has been at the dentist for about two weeks.

The goal is for Maya to eventually be able to sit with patients, and to help ease any anxiety they might have while at the dentist.

"She can sit with them, and help them calm their nerves, and help them feel more at home," Brummer says.

A perfect addition for a dentist with the motto, "We cater to cowards."

Maya does not roam freely throughout the dentist. She stays mainly in Brummer's office.

She will only help patients calm down in the future if they ask for her.

Maya already has her own Facebook Page. Click here for any updates on Maya.

She also has an Instagram! Click here for that.
