Toppling Goliath Brewery opens new location

New things are brewing in eastern Iowa.

Toppling Goliath has opened their new location in Decorah -- a bigger brewery. "Now we have ample room to bring in the several thousand people that come, serve them all, keep it quite comfortable," said founder, Clark Lewey.

The new taproom located at 1600 Prosperity Road, is 9,000 square ft with two levels and space for 1,300 people. The facility itself is even bigger at 52,000 square ft.

"We've gone from making 10 to 13 gallons of beer at a time, to making 3,100 to 6,200 gallons per day, so its been a big jump for our company," added Lewey.

However, they've had to close their old location due to the state of Iowa not allowing brewers to have more than one taproom. Still, the larger brewery is a dream, according to Lewey.

At the new location, tours are given. People can walk through the cellar and brewhouse, and learn about the Toppling Goliath brewing process. There's even a lab at the facility.

Jeff Raddatz, who was enjoying a nice cold one, said the brewery has been good for the local economy. "The business has done a lot for Decorah, the community, bringing people here, showing them what Decorah is all about," he said.

The business has hired more employees due to the expansion. There are nearly 50 workers, with plans to hire more.
