Don Bosco tops Denver for 9th duals title

Posted: Updated:

The tradition rolled on in Wednesday's state duals final as Don Bosco topped Denver 38-27 to capture the class 1A state title. The program now has 23 state duals appearances, 16 finals appearances, and nine state duals titles (which ties Davenport Assumption for the most by a single program).

Bonus point victories propelled the Dons to the win. Denver and Don Bosco each won seven of the 14 weight classes. Six of Don Bosco's wins came with bonus points which included four pins and one forfeit at 182 pounds. Austin Hellman clinced the meet for the Dons with a second period fall over John Ebaugh.

"I needed to win that match," said Hellman, "For myself, I needed to win that match. It ties everything together, makes everything sweeter."

"For these guys and for us as a staff it's been a long time coming since 2010," added head coach Tom Hogan, "We finally got the job done. Everything came together and it worked out."
