Nonprofit donating flu-fighting supplies to Iowa teachers

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Public Health says at least 97 people have died across the state.

And after a Cedar Rapids teacher reached out, asking for help, an Iowa nonprofit decided to do something to make a change.

The Teacher Store is a non-profit organization in Cedar Rapids that donates free supplies to area teachers.

This week they're focused specifically on flu- fighting materials.

The Teacher Store and Mercy Medical Center teamed up, and together they're donating hundreds of Kleenex, tissues, hand sanitizers, and anti-bacterial wipes.

With the help of students in the Cedar Rapids School District’s Transition Center, they've put together 250 bags with these supplies in them.

Any teacher can come and get a bag free of charge, to help protect their students from the flu.

Some of the bags were handed out last night. All remaining bags can be picked up tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 15) from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Teacher Store in Cedar Rapids.

Teachers should bring their school badge if they want to get one.

The address is 606 5th Ave. S.E. in Cedar Rapids.
