Snow can't keep Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa from drawing a crowd.  Their 2018 'Big Casino Night' Friday was a big success.

Featuring appetizers & desserts, a silent auction and, of course, casino gaming, the event brought many out to raise money for the agency's mission.

"All the money raised Friday night will go back into the community to help fund one-to-one mentoring for those kids who are facing some sort of diversity in their lives," said Casey Conry, BBBSNEIA Special Events Coordinator.  "It's more than just gambling.  It's the potential to change lives."

Conry estimates 150 people came out for the event, held at the Black's Building downtown Waterloo.  Organizers call the night a huge success, reporting they were able to raise 30% more than their goal.

New this year, they had Bingo games, with well-known community leaders calling the numbers, including Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart, Senator Jeff Danielson, Representative Timi Brown-Powers, Waterloo City Council members Pat Morrissey and Sharon Juon, and KWWL meteorologist Kyle Kiel.  KWWL's Abby Turpin also attended.  Abby is BBBSNEIA's Celebrity Ambassador and an honorary Board member.

BBBSNEIA is celebrating its 55th Birthday this year.  With that, they will be launching a campaign in March to find 55 Big Brothers, as men mentors are the hardest to find in our community.  If you're interested in being a Big Brother or Big Sister (yes, they have many girl Littles who need mentors, too!), please click here.

BBBSNEIA's CEO, Katie Orlando, earned two national honors from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America just this week.  Read about those accomplishments here.
