While some were trying to avoid the outdoors, others were braving it, even having fun in it. Area kids taking full advantage of the snow day.
Sammy Ruiz, 10, of Dubuque, sledded down the snowy hill at Bunker Hill Golf Course. "It was really bumpy cause it snowed a lot."
Six inches of snow was dumped on the city overnight, forcing schools to close.
10-year-old Alyssa Zimmerman didn't seem to mind. Instead of staying indoors she, along with her friends, were having some fun outdoors. "We got off school today because we got a lot of snow. It made me happy. Then I got to come and play outside, and I like that."
Others said it was the perfect day. "Called some people, found some sleds, bought some sleds, and we came out here, and it's just the right temperature just to go sledding," said Austin Pike of Dubuque.
While the rest of the city was digging out from under the snow -- these kids just wanted to enjoy the moment.
"I like school still, but I'd rather stay home and have fun in the snow," added Ruiz.
