UPDATE: Furniture store still burning in Vinton

UPDATE: Vinton Fire Department tells us the fire at Michael & Dowd Furniture is still burning. Smoke and water damage is now effecting neighboring businesses.

Smoke is still coming out of the furniture store. The city is working to restore power to businesses next to Michael & Dowd. Traffic lights in downtown Vinton will continue to flash red this weekend.

A structural engineer will be at the building later today to try and determine a cause of the fire. Police are asking people to avoid the area.

More details released on a Thursday night fire in downtown Vinton. 

Michael and Dowd furniture store caught fire around 7:00 Thursday night, eventually spreading. The Clingman Pharmacy, Fischer Law Firm and Benton County Title Company all received damage. 

The Vinton Fire Department and other surrounding departments battled the blaze through the early Friday morning hours in freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. 

No injuries were reported.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office has released more details on tonight's fire at Michael & Dowd in Vinton. 

Officers say a call for the fire at the furniture store first came in around 7 p.m. -- while crews remain on-scene battling active flames at this time.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office says a furniture store is on fire in downtown Vinton.

Fire crews from Vinton and the surrounding area are responding to the fire, which authorities say is inside Michael & Dowd along 4th Street. 

Officers did not have any information on whether anyone was inside the building when the fire sparked.
